Yash Raj Chopra ( 27/09/1932 21/10/2012) was an Indian film director, script writer and film producer, predominantly working in Hindi cinema. Chopra began his career as an assistant director to I.S. Johar and his elder brother, B.R. Chopra. He made his directorial debut with Dhool Ka Phool in 1959,the social drama Dharmputra (1961)commercially and critically successful drama, Waqt (1965). In 1973, Chopra founded his own production company, Yash Raj Films and launched it with Daag: A Poem of Love (1973).His success continued in the seventies, the action thriller Deewar (1975) which established Amitabh Bachchan as the leading actor in Bollywood, the romantic drama Kabhie Kabhie (1976) and Trishul (1978). From the late seventies till 1989 marked a professional setback notably Doosra Aadmi, Kaala Pathar, Silsila (1981), Mashaal (1984), Faasle (1985) and Vijay(1988) were his productions. Chopra then directed and produced the cult classic Chandni(1989) and Lamhe in 1991. In 1992 he directed Parampara which was critically panned. Chopra followed it with the box-office hit and trend setter Darr (1993). Starring Shahrukh Khan in his debut, it showed a sympathetic look at obsessive love and defied the image of the conventional hero. Since then, Chopra directed three more romantic films, all starring Khan; Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Veer-Zaara (2004) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) before he announced his retirement from directing in 2012. He came to be known as the "King of romance" of the Indian cinema. Rajesh Khanna born: Jatin Khanna; 29 December 1942 18 July 2012) was a Bollywood actor, film producer and politician. He was referred to as the "first superstar" and the "original superstar" of Indian cinema. He earned these titles following 15 consecutive solo hit films in the 1970s, a record that remains unbroken. Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973, 8 months before Dimple's debut film. He appeared in a total of 180 films - 163 feature films and 17 short films.He won three Filmfare Best Actor Awards and was nominated for the same fourteen times. He made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat and rose to prominence with his performances in films like Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq and Aradhana. He had 35 Golden Jubilee Hits (which means the films ran for more than 50 weeks in theatres across India) in the period 19671975, three more in 7678 and 35 more in the period 19791991. He also had 22 silver jubilee hits (that is films ran in theatres for more than 25 weeks) in the period 19661991.[7] He was the highest paid Indian actor from 197079 and shared the same honour with Amitabh Bachchan from 198087. He was also a Lok Sabha member of the Indian National Congress from New Delhi constituency from 1992 to 1996. After being critically ill, Khanna died on 18 July 2012. Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 3 December 2011), better known as Dev Anand, was an Indian film actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema.Part of the Anand family, he co-founded Navketan Films in 1949 with his elder brother Chetan Anand. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian cinema. His career spanned more than 65 years with acting in 114 Hindi films of which 104 have him play the main solo lead hero and he did 2 English films.Updated: Dec 28, 2012
